Coffeyville Center for the Arts

In June 1994, the Coffeyville Cultural Arts Council, Inc. purchased and renovated a downtown building. In October 1994, the Coffeyville Center for the Arts opened its doors. This was made possible by the contributions of many people, clubs, and businesses who donated money for a brick or tile which was placed permanently in the lobby of the Center for the Arts. The first exhibition in the two galleries was Native American crafts and demonstration in conjunction with the first annual pow wow. Since the opening, the activities at the Coffeyville Center for the Arts have increased and the art center hosts on average of over a thousand people each month through exhibitions, special events, classes, school children visitations, and meetings. Art exhibits change monthly within the galleries and Coffeyville and a reception/opening the first of each month. Special events such as the Taste of Coffeyville, the Annual Cookie Sale, the Birthday Party, the Festival of Tables, the Chocolate Fantasy are held at the Coffeyville Center for the Arts to help fund the center. Classes for children and adults are held in the two classrooms at the Center with their class to hear a lecture and view the art on display. Several groups are using the Center as a meeting place for their group. The Center also conducts tours to various places and may have several busloads for a single event. The Center also works with other groups such as the Native American Pow Wow Committee to help them sponsor events of a special interest. Funding for the Center is by basically by donations and the help of grants through the Kansas Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
