The Starry Night Trio

Tuesday, October 19, 1999
An evening with the Starry Night Trio is as diverse as its multi-talented artists. Julie Rivers, piano; Randy Wills, synthesizers and vocals; and Peter Larsen, guitar, blend their musical expertise in beautiful and fun ensembles. Lush piano and orchestra renditions from the recording One Starry Night and the newest release, The Kiss of the Sun provide an ambiance of glitter and romance. Original high energy duos and trios by Wills and Larsen, a touch of the classics, and a bit of jazz create an unforgettable evening with three engaging artists.
The Count Basie Orchestra

Monday, November 8, 1999
The Count Basie Orchestra, the most explosive force in jazz of today, is nineteen performers committed to upholding and advancing this "American Institution." Some members are new, yet the majority of the sound still swings from musicians hand-picked by Count Basie himself. They are in demand for television and films, have won every respected jazz poll in the world at least once, and continue to accumulate awards and special recognitions. Today, under the leadership of Grover Mitchell, the Basie essence is still intact. Grover gives the downbeat and kicks off the explosive sound of The Count Basie Orchestra, upholding the tradition of "Jumpin' at the Woodside, Moten Swing, and One O'Clock Jump..."
